Italian Language Plus Gilding and Restoration

The ABC School would like to give students the opportunity to get in touch with the works of art in a very unique way, by attending a workshop and learning the basics of the trade, that of a gilder of wooden works and a restorer of paintings.

We do this in collaboration with a school that is located a stone's throw away from Ponte Vecchio, with teachers who also work for the Uffizi Galleries and other prestigious Italian and foreign museums.

The courses are personalized and can be followed by beginners and also by those who already wok in the restoration environment and would like to deepen their knowledge and specialise themselves.

Students of the ABC school can engage in the learning of the language in the morning with the Standard Course in a group or the Individual course, and take part in restoration in the afternoon, making their stay in Florence a truly special experience.

We offer two different courses:

Course in gilding and restoration of gilded works

The work of a gilder is a craft profession. It provides the knowledge of the ornamental design, of the characteristics of different styles and of the technique of the various types of gold and silver leaf suitable for the gilding of wood. In addition, it restores and creates artistic objects. Lessons take place in the afternoon for a total of 20 hours per week (4 hours per day).

Course in painting restoration:

The restorer is a professional that combines the artistic ability with the technical knowledge, modern methodology and an awareness that allows them to intervene on paintings made on canvas or wood, to eliminate the causes of bad conservation due to aging or trauma. The restorer always works in the perspective of prevention and conservation of the pictorial work with professional ethics. Lessons take place in the afternoon for a total of 20 hours per week (4 hours per day).

Lesson times:

The timetable of the Italian language lessons depends on the chosen course.

Those who choose to do an individual course will have a personalized timetable.
